Pablo Enrique

Three years ago during my first visit to Joya de las Flores, 2 PT's and I offered to see some people in the community with disabilities.  I will never forget when Pablo Enrique was carried into the classroom we were working in by his uncle.  We began asking him questions and found out he was 15 years old when he suddenly fell and was told by doctors that  he has Guillain- Barre.  It was a very emotional moment because David Ives also had Guillain- Barre.  At the time, Pablo was so depressed and his spirit was crushed and found hope when he found out that David had the same disease.  The following year I was so eager to visit Pablo again. We were able to send crutches down with another delegation earlier that year.  When we saw him I thought I was looking at a different person.  He was smiling and was able to walk around his house using crutches.  We gave him several exercises and promised we would see him again soon. Yesterday, we were told that we had a surprise and I had no idea what that surprise could be when we pulled up to a long dirt road.  To my surprise, Pablo came walking up this big hill.  The 3 of us that saw him that very first day instantly started crying.  It is incredible how much progress he made, and more importantly how much he is enjoying life! Last year we organized his sister to home school him and this year we will register him for classes at school in the community.  He will have to walk 30 minutes to school each day, but he is so excited to finally be in the classroom for the first time in almost 6 years.  Pablo is living life and is in good spirits.  My heart is so happy to see him full of life. I am so thankful I was able to meet this incredible individual, he will forever be my inspiration to do therapy for the rest of my life.   Muchas gracias, Pablo.
